Netflix has given us the first trailer for their new upcoming show: The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance. This is a prequel series to the movie The Dark Crystal that came out in 1982. Here's the trailer:
As you can see, they are keeping true to the original by using all puppetry for the characters. While some may say that there is no computer animation at all, I still believe that there is some, just not with the characters. The series is set on the same world, Thra, where three Gelfling find out the horrible truth behind the Skeksis' powers, and they begin their journey of world-changing rebellion.
There appears to be a huge cast of A-list voice cast, including Taron Egerton, Anya Taylor-Joy, Nathalie Emmanuel, Helena Bonham-Carter, Eddie Izzard, Mark Hamill, Simon Pegg, and Andy Samberg just to name a few!
I was very young when The Dark Crystal made its way not in the Theaters, but on to VHS / TV. As a kid, I remember it as just being an odd movie. But as I've grown up, watching it again I can really see and marvel at the fantasy imagination behind it. I slowly became a fan of the movie, and seeing this prequel to the movie come to life has me excited to see it succeed.
The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance comes to Netflix August 30th.
