Beginning September 17th, D&D players will have a new adventure down in to the first level of the Nine Hells in Baldur's Gate: Descent into Avernus. Players will see the fabled Blood War first hand, and they may, if they so choose to, get the chance to participate within the war itself, or fight and hide away from the eternal, infernal war between devils and demons. But this adventure isn't just about the Blood War. Players will also get to explore as a part of this 256 page adventure Baldur's Gate itself, as they begin to see the slow descent of the city into corruption of evil.
Designed by Chris Perkins, Principle Narrative Designer for Dungeons & Dragons, he describes that this adventure is "hell meets Mad Max: Fury Road". Yes, you will get to ride and drive actual, mechanical vehicles! But these aren't your average Subaru. Think of what you've seen in many of those post-apocalyptic movies where mobility, defense, and offense are all equally needed. And it's not gas that fuels these infernal machines but it is Souls, trapped within coins.
Wizards of the Coast did a weekend multi-stream recently called DnDLive 2019: The Descent where not only was this announced, but many popular D&D players and DM's were able to showcase just a taste of this hellish, delicious adventure! We even got a small hint / glimpse that a certain Red Dragonborn Paladin of Tiamat could be met down in Avernus!
As a D&D enthusiast, I'm really looking forward to this adventure! I've got a group that is just now going through the Waterdeep: Dragon Heist adventure and it's been extremely fun! If my Metal Gnome Bard can survive Waterdeep, I'll be itching to bring him down into Hell for all the fun you can have in well...... hell.
